Jose G. Ramirez was a Puerto Rico based securities broker. He worked in the securities industry for twenty-six years. During his career, he was registered with three different securities firms.
His registrations included; Painewebber Incorporated (1986-1988), Prudential Securities Incorporated (1990-1997), and UBS Financial Services (1997-2014). He is no longer working as a registered securities broker in any fashion.
Jose G. Ramirez’ publicly available FINRA BrokerCheck report shows that he has received countless customer complaints over the course of his career. Specifically in the last five years. Most of these complaints were concerning the sale of Puerto-Rico closed end funds. Closed end funds are publicly traded securities that only offer shares for a limited amount of time. Securities brokers like Jose G. Ramirez can use the limited amount of time to create a sense that investors might miss their chance to get in on the ground floor of something great.
Jose G. Ramirez received almost eighty complaints from customers alleging that that he unsuitably over-concentrated their accounts in closed-end funds. The customers also alleged that he misrepresented the details concerning the closed-end fund investments. Many of these complaints have been settled. Some are still pending.
In November 2018, Jose G. Ramirez pleaded guilty to one count of bank fraud. He was sentenced to over a year in prison after confessing to participating in a fraudulent investment scheme in which he gave multiple clients credit lines that he then encouraged them to trade excessively to thus create over $1.2 million in commissions.
