What Does This Mean?
Misrepresentation occurs whenever a securities broker makes any false assertion to an investor about an investment or potential investment. Misrepresentation can occur due to the broker’s own negligence, or through their intent to defraud the investor. Regardless if the broker makes material misrepresentations on accident or purpose, it can still cause significant financial harm to investors. This is because it often leads to investors making crucial financial decisions based on misinformation.
